A WORD ABOUT CO-MANAGEMENT AND REFERRAL ARRANGEMENTS
Dr. Rosenthal wants to provide the best surgical care to every patient. He takes care of every patient's medical and surgical needs from beginning to end and sees all patients post LASIK until they have fully healed. He does not believe in "co-management" of LASIK patients in which less qualified individuals would take care of you. These arrangements are usually not in the best interest of the patient, but rather a way in which some surgeons garner referrals. In these cases, the referring individual receives a "cut" of the LASIK fee, in many cases even if that person renders no care. This may mean that you are referred to the surgeon who offers the highest fee. That person may not be the best qualified surgeon nor the surgeon that best suits your needs!
Dr. Rosenthal follows the guidelines recently adopted by both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. The membership of these societies represent patient advocacy as well as over 90% of all practicing eye surgeons in the United States.
